New Year

Good-bye 2010, hello 2011.  What a fabulous year I've had.  I have really enjoyed blogging and am so glad I started.  I began the year with a goal of blogging every day and I didn't quite make that but I think I did pretty good.  It's fun to look back at the old posts and see what I did.  I plan on blogging away into 2011 and hopefully just recording what I'm doing in my life.  Here's to a great new year!

Christmas

What a wonderful day!  Going to church at Christmas time is so special.  I truly enjoy going all year but at this time I love worshiping my Savior and enjoying my family.  My mom wrote the most touching letter to my siblings and I.  I cried all the way through it.  Brad even said it was the best part of the day.  I love being with my family and am so grateful for the wonderful adults they all are and for the fabulous grandchildren they are raising.  Austin and Carson are getting so big and we love them!  I know the years are going to fly by and before we know it, Brad and I will be great grandparents.  I can't wait.  Kevin is living in Spain and learning Spanish and when he gets home he will be a young man.  Caroline and Christian are just so sweet.  I loved watching them open their Christmas presents on Skype.  I love technology that helps me feel close to them.  I am so grateful for the birth of Christ and for his mission here on the earth.  The plan of salvation truly is the plan of happiness and the only way to really enjoy this life.  I've been on both sides and His side is the only way to true happiness.  Merry Christmas to everyone and especially to my loving husband and eternal companion.  "I would do it all again".

Sick

Oh, I hate being sick at the holidays.  I don't know what I've got but I wish it would go away :(

Tonight is our annual seafood dinner at my mom's and I don't want to miss it but the thought of smelling fish is not the most pleasant idea.  I hope I feel better soon!

Snazzie Drawers

I'm so excited!  I finally got time to make the Starlet La Fleur pattern that I bought months ago from Snazzie Drawers.  If you haven't visited her blog you must do it now.  Click here to visit.  Her patterns aren't super simple and take a little time but so worth every penny and minute invested.  I can't wait to make the Kennedy Rose.  LOVE THEM!

Going to the Dr.

My mom gets to go to New York for a week.  While she's gone I can't get sick.  I have to be to work.  I woke up with a sore throat yesterday and it just got worse today.  Strep has been going around the day care center and I was getting very nervous.  I didn't want to be sick and not be able to stay home to get better.  I decided I needed to go to the  Dr. so I could get on antibiotics before mom leaves.  I don't get sick very often and when I do I just stay home and sleep and take aspirin and that seems to kick it.  I don't even have a Dr. to go to other than my gynecologist so I went to the Community Care Center.  The Dr. took my temperature, my blood pressure, looked in my ears, throat, and nose and told me I have...............A COLD!  I went to the Dr. for the first time in over 10 years and I have a cold!  Boy, do I feel dumb!

Thanksgiving

I'm getting ready to go back to work after the Thanksgiving weekend.  Thanksgiving is my all time, number one favorite holiday ever.  I love the food, the movies (we saw Harry Potter), the shopping (no, I didn't get up early) and the bonus days.  Friday always feels like Saturday so when I wake up and have another day to eat, shop, and go to movies (we saw Hereafter)  it's a bonus holiday.  Oh, by the way, Harry Potter was great and Hereafter was a dud.  I also finished up Caroline's Christmas dress.  I needed to get it in the mail by Friday so she could have it for her Christmas program on the 3rd.  I was writing up my gift list today and I don't have that many gifts to buy.  We are going to try to cut down just a little this year.  I seem to get a little nuts with the gifts.  Now, on to Christmas!

Kid Quotes

I was told I couldn't put this on my blog but it is just too funny.  I did promise not to use any names so here it is.  It's from a 4 year old boy.

"Mom, my penis wants to rule the world"

Mom: "No, your penis needs to stay in your pants!"

Dad: "Get in line behind every other guy!"

I couldn't stop laughing because everything has a little truth in it.

Kid Quotes

My co-workers' little 4 year old daughter was reciting the pledge of allegiance to her last night.  This is how it goes:
I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America
And to the republic WHERE WITCHES STAND one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Isn't that just too funny?

Kid Quotes

A friend of mine told me this about her 8 year old daughter.
As I'm about to pick up a "sleeping" little girl to carry her into the house I say, "let's see how strong I am." To which she says,(still pretending to sleep) "make two trips."
 How cute is that?

Kid Quotes

My co-worker's second grade son was watching a group of Jr. High School kids who were waiting for the bus.  He said "Mom, they're just a whole new breed of idiot". She laughed and said "Where did that come from?"  He looked very puzzled and said "From me".

I would love to be in his brain for just one day.

Kid Quotes

Jackson, again:
"Jackson, how did you get refried beans all over yourself?"

"MAGIC!"

Kid Quotes

Oh, Jackson, Jackson, Jackson!

My sister brought him into day care and he was covered with yellow paint.  He had a play date with a little girl from his class and they found the cans of spray paint in the garage.  They were both covered from head to toe.  She was able to get most of it off with lots of scrubbing and paint thinner.  When I asked Jackson why he spray painted each other yellow he said "Because the blue was empty."  You can't argue with that logic.

Kid Quotes

One of the first graders was talking with our preschool teacher this morning about his school.

H. "Do you know where my school is?"
A. "No"
H. "Does your family know where it is?"
A. "My family doesn't live here.  They live in Arizona."
H."So you live alone?  That's sad.  You should come live with me."

So sweet!

My Green Thumb

I grew these myself!  I love having fresh flowers in my home but I really can't grow a thing.  Everything I plant dies but these came up this year without my doing anything.  I tried to grow them last year but they were pathetic.  Who knew that they need a year to get going?  This gives me hope and I've bought some seeds to plant next spring.  Maybe next year I'll have fresh cut flowers all summer long.

Hunger Games

I'm starting the book "Hunger Games" tonight.  I've heard so much about it and how good it is that I have to read it.  I hope it's as good as everyone says.  I love to read and I'm always looking for great reads especially when they are part of a series.  I'll let you know what I think.

Connor Turns 21

My baby turns 21 years old today.  What a milestone for both of us.  He says he doesn't feel any different but he's very excited to be "legal".  He keeps saying that he's old enough to drink now and I say "No you aren't".  He says "Yes I am".  I say "NO!" and he says "YES I AM!....................but I won't!"  I love this stage of my life and I'm excited to see what adulthood holds for him.

Kid Quotes

The mother of one of our cute little 3 year preschool girls told me that this weekend they were in line at Target shopping.  They got behind an elderly lady who was very frail and thin and leaning on a younger woman to walk.  Her daughter asked very loudly "Mom, is she DEAD?"  It reminded me of one Thanksgiving several years ago when my youngest son was about 8 or 9 years old.  We were talking about everyone's age and he asked my mom (his grandma) how old she was.  When she told him he said very seriously "Wow, you must be almost dead."  We have never forgotten that and still tell mom that she is "almost dead"!

Kid Quotes

My daughter just called me and told me that my 6 year old grandson plays "America's Got Talent" with her.  He jumps around and does flips and then says "Am I going to Vegas?"  She says "Yes" and he cheers and yells "YES!!!!!!!!!!".  I wish I could see him do it.

Heise

I just got home from Heise, which is a lovely little RV campground where we keep our 5th wheel trailer year round.  I think of it as our "cabin" because it's as close as we are going to get to having a vacation home.  My mom has a 5th wheel next door to ours and we have spent just about every weekend there this year.  I truly love it up there.  I love the sound of the wind rustling the leaves in the trees.  I love sitting on the swing in our gazebo reading a good book and I really love sleeping in!  I usually spend my time reading or doing crafts.  I worked on a pretty ruffled necklace and made more beaded watch bands.  It is the most relaxing place I know.  I can't wait to go back next weekend.

Kid Quotes

Jackson has been keeping us entertained today.  Here's what he has been telling us:

He fell down and scraped his leg.  His teacher wanted to clean it up and he told her "It's my speed owee.  If you clean it I won't be fast."

"My friend pushed me down with his super mind powers."  His teacher said "Your friend has special mind powers?"  He said "They aren't special, they're all lies!"

Chickens

I've always had this romantic picture of rural life.  Never having lived on a farm, I think that my days would be filled with gardening, cooking, quilting, etc.  I know that having animals and crops is hard work but in my day dreams I never have to do any work.  I only get to do what I want which is gardening, cooking, and quilting.  I've told my husband for years that I want a small acreage with a red barn on it.  He asks me what I want to do with a barn and I reply that I don't know, I just want a red barn.
So, all my neighbors have started raising chickens and with my romantic notion of farming I talked my husband into letting me have some.  And I wanted my chicken coop to be.....you guessed it, a red barn.  He spent 2 weeks and I don't know how much money (he won't tell me) and I have the coolest red barn chicken coop.  And tonight we ate our first eggs.  We had fried red potatoes, blueberry cream cheese pancakes and eggs.  It was yummy.  The only difference I noticed was how yellow the yolks are.  We are getting 2 eggs a day so I think breakfast for dinner will become a weekly event.

Eat, Pray, Love

I'm reading the book "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert and I'm already on the Love section.  My daughter and mother are reading it too and then we'll all go see the movie together.  And by together I mean my mom and I will see it in Idaho Falls and my daughter will see it in Jacksonville but we'll go at the same time.  Then we will talk about it.  Just a few thoughts about the book so far.  It's pretty good.  I can't wait to see Julia Roberts in the movie.  It is an interesting journey of someone looking for God, love, and self by traveling to 3 different countries.  It's kind of hard for me to relate to the story though, because I have already found God, love, and I'm relatively secure with myself.  But the book has some interesting parts.  She wrote it in parts that are kind of like chapters.  I really liked part 58.  I should be done with it before the movie comes out on Aug. 13th.  I'll let you know how I like the movie.

My 8 yr. old nephew at a baseball game.  "Mom, can I buy something at the confession stand?"

The couple sitting behind them had a good laugh and wanted to buy a confession too!

Kid Quotes

Where does the time go?  It's been 2 months since I've blogged.  Of course, I have been having fun with my grandkids and I forgot how much time it takes out of your day when you are taking care of children.  I have several kid quotes to share but I'm going to space them out.  Here's the first one and naturally it's from my nephew Jackson.  His mom was getting ready for work in the morning and this was before hair and makeup.  This is how it went:

Jackson: Mom, why are you so old?
Leisa: What do you mean?
Jackson:  Well just look at you!
Leisa: But Jackson, don't you think I'm beautiful?
Jackson: Not your face.  Just look at it.  You're old.

It's a good thing she loves him and he's so adorable.  That kind of comment first thing in the morning is sure to ruin even the best day.

Kid Quotes

This is from one of the precious little 3 year old boys in Ms.Britney's class.  He told her "My dad's name is Eric.  My mom's name is Honey".  At least his mom calls his dad by his name.  I've heard little boys say their dad's name was something unprintable before because that's what their mom calls him!

Kid Quotes

3 year old in Ms. Kami's class:  "My birthday is in Octember!"  I think that's the month after Septober!

This is the same little girl who brought a pink cupcake sprinkle to Ms. Kami and said "Look, I found reindeer poop!"  Ms. Kami said "Are you sure it's reindeer poop? It's pink."  She answered very seriously, "It's a girl reindeer."

Kid Quotes

Ms. Kate's class has a marigold growing in her window.  One of the flowers wilted and died and when she told the class it was dead one of the boys said "Can we make it feel better?"  Isn't that cute?  I wish that was the way things worked for real.

Kid Quotes

I spent the day with 32 kids at Craters of the Moon today.  One of my favorite kids is a little girl with Asperger's Syndrome.  She was totally into the whole experience.  She had her Jr. Ranger vest on with a matching hat and she brought her own guide book.  The best moment of the day was when we were taking roll and when we called her name she said "Could you just call me Jr. Ranger?"  And the worst moment of the day was when she hiked up to the top of a volcano and a big gust of wind blew her hat off and it went sailing into the next county.  She worked her way into a giant melt down.  After she calmed down we told her we would stop at the ranger's station on the way out and tell them to look for it.  It had her name and phone number in it so she's convinced they will find it and call her.  When we got back and her mom came to pick her up she wanted to e-mail the rangers right away.  Her poor mother probably got no peace until she did just that.

Kid Quotes

I keep forgetting to post the adorable things my daughter tells me about my grandson Christian.  Last week he was cranky and irritable and she had finally had enough and sent him to bed.  He started crying and throwing his "Chichen Fits" but she is a strong mom and was sticking to her guns.  She took him to his bedroom to get him undressed and his crying escalated.  He promised he'd be good, he promised he'd behave, he promised he'd never do that again but she was firm and consistent and said he had to go to bed.  Then he clutched her sobbing, buried his head in her neck and pleaded "FORGIVE ME!"  How could she resist?  I don't know how she made it that far without caving in.  I know I would have given in long before that.  She forgave him and he was a perfect angel the rest of the night.

Kid Quotes

I think I'm going to have to change my title from Kid Quotes to Jackson Quotes.  Tonight as he was going home he started crying.  Leisa asked him what was wrong and he said "You called me stupid head".  She said "I did not" and he said "Yes you did, you called me stupid head all day.  You said it on purpose."  After a few minutes he said "I'm just going to run away but I don't know the way to Riley's house!"  After this weekend with Riley's tantrums I don't think Andrea will go for that.

Kid Quotes

Today was fun and wet!  Mom, Leisa, Jackson and I went to 7 cemeteries to decorate graves and Jackson kept us entertained the whole time.  We were driving from Rexburg to Menan on the winding roads around the buttes.  The roads go back and forth and up and down and sometimes feel like a roller coaster.  After one especially quick turn Jackson said "Whoa, I didn't see that coming".  Where does his little 3 year old brain hear these things? And how does he remember EVERYTHING he hears?

Kid Quotes

OK here we go with Jackson again.  He has been upset all afternoon.  He keeps coming up to his teacher and telling her "They're calling me Cheeto!"  She talked to the little girl who was calling him "names" and she was calling him "Kiddo".  A few minutes later he was upset because he thought she called him "Burrito" so the teacher told the little girl "Let's just call him Jackson.  He doesn't like being called kiddo."  She said "But it's not a bad word" and the teacher agreed but told her Jackson doesn't like being called anything but "Jackson".  There is even a little boy who can't say his name right.  He calls him "Jaskon" and Jackson tells him over and over "My name is Jackson, not Jaskon!"  One of the other girls in the class said "It's OK if you call me kiddo".  Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Kid Quotes

Tonight we were at my brother's house celebrating birthdays.  We were in the living room just sitting and visiting.  My 3 year old nephew Jackson came in and started spinning around.  When he stopped he was very wobbly and couldn't stand up straight.  He said "Oh, I'm very busy".  When I thought about it that must be what his brain feels like when he gets dizzy.  Busy in the head.  It makes sense.  Well, to Jackson anyway.

Kindergarten Graduation

At our kindergarten graduation last night we announced our graduates with their future career plans.  We had 3 veternarians,1 doctor, 1 dentist (a rich dentist) 1 ballerina and several pro athletes.  I'm not sure if any of the kids will actually achieve their goals but I know my grandson, Christian will achieve his.  He graduated kindergarten from First Coast Christian School in Florida tonight.  My daughter texted me and said when they announced him it was "Christian Andreani, future............TEENAGER!!!  Pretty sure he'll be one of those some day.

Spring Program and Kindergarten Graduation

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to everyone who worked so hard to make our program so great tonight.  Especially Ms. Angie.  I have really enjoyed doing music time with you the past few years.  You are totally fearless and a great teacher.  I can't wait to see what you come up with for next year's program.  YOU ROCK!

Exercising

My husband insisted I watch a program on CNBC tonight about obesity.  No, I didn't hit him, he knows I'm very concerned about my weight.  Anyway, they had the BEST idea on it.  Some guy has designed a tread mill/computer workstation combo.  You walk on a treadmill while you are on the computer.  I am totally going to make Brad figure out how I can make my treadmill fit with my computer workstation.  I think that's the greatest idea.  I'll let you know when I do it and post pictures.

Getting Older

"What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new. Right now"
~Author Unknown

I read this quote on one of the blogs that I follow and I thought it was meant for me right now.  I know lots of people, mainly women, who hate getting older, deny their true age, and try everything and anything to turn back the clock.  I know that physically, I wish I was in my 20's again, but I wouldn't trade my life today to go back even 10 years.  I keep learning new things and feel more settled than  ever.  There is nothing I can do to slow down time so I concentrate on enjoying each day and learning as much as I can.  And I love my life.  I am so blessed.  I can't wait to see what the future brings me.

Kid Quotes

The same new boy that was my last post is going to be my new favorite go-to for kid quotes.  He had a hard time leaving mom the first few mornings.  He would cry and hang on her.  The past couple of days have been really good, though.  He comes in smiling and excited to be here.  When mom came to pick him up tonight she told me that she was quizzing him his first day on why he didn't like it here.  He told her "They feed me slime for lunch and buggers for snack".  I wouldn't want to come here either!  I don't know if I dare tell our cook what he said.  She will either die laughing or be insulted.  I think I will tell her, she has a great sense of humor.

Kid Quotes

We have a new little boy in the pre-school class who is just adorable!  He was talking to one of the little girls in class and she told him "Ms. Kami dyed her hair" and he said "It's not dyed, it's already dead".  She dyes her hair often so it's doing to "die" over and over again.

Learning To Be Still

One of the things I learned at the Women's Conference I attended last week was that my life is filled with noise.  As soon as I wake up in the morning I turn on the radio and when I get home at night I turn on the TV.  In between, I work at a day care center so, well I don't have to tell you that my day is filled with noise, too.  One of the speakers challenged us to turn off the noise in our lives so we can hear the Spirit when it whispers to us.  I'm going to do it slowly until I can get used to it and it feels natural to surrounded by quiet.  I'm on the computer and I don't have the TV on in the background.  It's not as bad as I thought it would be.  This morning I got ready for church without the radio on.  It was kind of nice.  I learned so many other things that I want to incorporate into my life and I'll share all of them with you in the next few days.  I think if I commit them in writing I'll be more likely to follow through with them.

Kid Quotes

The mom of one of our adorable 5 yr. old boys came in chuckling this morning.  She said the recycling project his class started on Earth Day has made an impression.  His teacher had them make a recycling box for pop cans and asked them to bring them in instead of throwing them away.  So he goes home and opens 3 sodas and pours them out so he can bring them in to recycle.  She tried to convince him that you need to drink the soda and then take the empties to school but he wasn't buying it.  He had to have the cans to put in the box and it didn't matter if they didn't have any empties on hand, he made some!  You've got to love his enthusiasm.

Lord Of The Rings

I watched the first Lord of the Rings movie Friday night with my son.  He is the ultimate LOTR fan and expert.  It was fun to see his excitement and to be able to ask him questions about what was going on.  We are supposed to watch the 2nd one tonight but it's too late.  I guess it will have to wait until next weekend.

Kid Quotes

My co-worker told me this story yesterday.  Her children were with her ex-husband for the Easter weekend.  Her 4 yr. old daughter told her that the went to church and the only thing they did was "standed up and sitted down".  Then her 7 yr old son said to her "Did you know Jesus came back from the dead?"  She said "Yes, that's why we have Easter."  He said "I didn't know people could come back from the dead" and she answered "Well, only Jesus has come back to life.  Eventually everyone will but right now Jesus is the only one who has come back from the dead".  He told her "I think that's awfully selfish of Jesus.  Everyone has to wait but he only had to be dead for 3 days."  She was concerned that he was anxious about his grandpa and cousin who have died and she asked if he was thinking of them and he said "No I'm thinking of myself".  I love how he reasons things out in his own little mind.

Kid Quotes

This is from my little nephew Jackson.  This morning he told his mom "You can't get married 'ecause you don't have any princess clothes and I don't see any princess stores around here".

Then last night they were saying prayers and he told her "Please don't make this a long one, mom".  After two short sentences he whispered "I told you not to make this a long one!".  He must have been tired.

Kid Quote

Here's my little nephew, Jackson again.  For the past few days he's been telling his mom that he wants to eat white weenies.  He takes her to the freezer, the fridge, the pantry and he can't find any and she has no idea what he wants.  Yesterday he came running to her so excited because she had bought "white weenies" and he showed her a box of...................TWINKIES!  I haven't laughed so hard in weeks!  I'll never look at a Twinkie the same way again.

Kid Quote

Ok, so I think I have the cutest grandkids in the world.  And my little Christian is the sweetest little boy.  When they have family prayer together in the mornings, he always prays that he and Caroline won't get any marks (those are given by their teachers when they don't listen, disobey, etc.) and that Kevin will have wisdom.  The other day when his mom picked him up he told her "No marks today.  Just like I prayed for".  And then he turned to Kevin and asked "Did you get your wisdom today?"  She couldn't quit laughing but it was so sweet.  I miss their little faces and can't wait to kiss them this summer.

Kid Quote

In our pre-kindergarten class this morning the teacher called one of the 4 year old boys goofy and he told her "Goofy is the new handsome".  I don't know about you but I don't think Goofy is very handsome.  Maybe for another dog, but not me.  Although I have known some very handsome comedians.  Like Steve Martin.  Maybe it's the hair!

Kid Quotes

One of our darling 4 year old boys was dragging his feet and complaining about going to school today.  He told his mom he wanted to go to work with her.  She said he couldn't because she had a lot of work to do today.  He thought for a minute and then asked her "Do you color at work?"  She said "No, I don't color, I work" and he replied "But coloring IS work".  I've decided I want to be 4 again and "work" at coloring.  Wouldn't that be great?

Happy 50th Birthday Leisa!

Tomorrow is my sister, Leisa's, birthday. A BIG one.  50!  I was planning a surprise party for her and decided to let her 7 year old son, Tyson help me.  He loves planning parties and I knew he would get excited.  After we had everything planned Leisa called me up giggling.  She said Tyson was telling her everything we had talked about and he ended by telling her "Oh, and it's a surprise party, mom".  She said "Well, Tyson, if it's a surprise I don't think I'm supposed to know about it".  He thought for a minute and then shrugged his shoulders and said very matter-of-factly "Well, then I guess it won't be a surprise".  We've laughed about it for 2 weeks.  I'm glad she's such a good sport and is going along with it.  When I invite anyone I tell them it's a surprise party that she knows about.  Her 19 year old son, Derek came to the day care tonight with my son, Connor and Tyson and we blew up 400 helium balloons to fill  her office and decorate the fences in front of the center.  It looks great!  I can't wait for her to see it.

Last Friday, one of the sweet 3 year old girls woke up from her nap, stood up and stated "I need a hero".  I don't think she was fully awake and out of her dream.  You know, we all need a hero.  And I hope she doesn't settle for less when she grows up.  A lot of people say that there are no good men left but there are.  You just have to look hard and sometimes long.  I love the quote "Never settle for less than happily ever after".  You can have it.  I know I do.

Kid Quotes

From Brittney's Early Learner class of 2 and 3 year olds:

"I've got the niccups"
"I'm going to bring 2 Darbies for show and tell"

And from my 7 year old nephew as he was going through the books his mom bought from the book fair, "I SO need to thank my mom!"

Book Fair

It's only the second day of our book fair and we've already reached our goal of $1500.  That means tomorrow is a bonus day.  Next year I'll have to raise the goal.  We get 50% of our sales in free books for our library.  Very nice!

Kid Quote

Jackson was trying to get out of nap time so he was gabbing with Tina in the kitchen.  He was telling her all about his skin.
"My skin has blood in it"
"My skin has bones in it"
"My skin is named ME!"
"And that keeps me alive."

The other night his brother Tyson, who is 7 yrs old was holding his head in his hands.  His mom, my sister Leisa, asked him what was wrong.  He said "I'm just trying to fight off the ghosts."

Standards Night

Just got home from our Stake Standards Night.  Bro. Butterfield was the speaker and then we had a Q&A panel on anything the youth wanted to ask that was media related.  Excellent speaker and wonderful youth=an uplifting experience.  I really learned a lot.  I also set up the book fair at the day care center tonight-one of my favorite things about my job.  I love, love, love books and I get to play with them for 3 days.  Heaven!

On a sad note, tonight I learned that my favorite author died a couple of weeks ago.  I own every book that Dick Francis wrote and I'm sad that I won't have any more to look forward to.  I hope his son, Felix will carry on.  He co-authored the last few books with his dad and I enjoyed them a lot.

Kid Quote

One of our precious little 4 year old girls asked her mom, "Isn't it amazing how great I am?"  Her mom thinks she is pretty great and so do I.

Kid Quotes

My little nephew Jackson is the best source of my kid quotes.  Today he was in the gym with his class and the teacher had the giant parachute out playing with them.  When it was time to put it away Jackson started crying because he didn't want the fun to end.  He kept saying " But I'll behave!"  His teacher tried telling him they weren't putting it away because they were in trouble but he kept insisting "I want to be good.  I want to keep playing.  I want to behave."  It's funny how their little minds work.

We also had one of our older school age girls telling us her life goals.  This is her top three:
1-Be a famous rock star
2-Go to school to learn how to do hair and nails
3-Work at the day care with her friends.

I don't know about the first two but I would hire her for sure when she gets old enough.

Then there were the two kids who had everyone convinced they were in a rock band and had a gig tonight.  One of the mom's overheard us laughing about it so we told her what they said.  As they were leaving her daughter asked if she could go to the concert tonight.  We had to convince both of them that there really wasn't a concert going on.

A First

Tonight I did something that I've done before but it turned into a first.  I had a free movie ticket that expired tonight so I went to see "Blind Side".  Brad didn't want to go because he had to get up at 5:00 am for work and mom has seen the movie so I went by myself.  I've done that before and I actually quite enjoy it.  When I walked into the theater I was hoping to get my favorite seat, right in the center behind the railing so I can put my feet up. What I wasn't expecting was to be the only one in the entire theater.  That was a first.  And I've just got to say that I loved the movie.  I cried and had a headache when it was over.  Sandra Bullock was great, Tim McGraw was very good and the little boy who played SJ stole my heart.  I highly recommend the movie.

Kid Quotes

I've been slacking lately so here's two cute quotes:

M: My doggy likes me.
B:  He likes you?
M: No, he likes my face.
B: Oh, he licks your face.
M: That's what I said, he likes my face.
M is only 2 years old and completely adorable.

Today after nap time one of the 3 year olds was walking around without his shoes and socks on.  His teacher told him to put them on and he said "But my feet need to be naked".  I like my feet naked, too.

Kid Quote

Ok, so technically this isn't a kid quote but it's pretty funny.  One of our employees hurt her back playing dodge ball the other night.  I think she pulled a muscle.  She was whining yesterday morning and said she needed to go to the "choir-practor".  She's from "kin-tucky" and has the strongest "ax-sent".  It sounds hilarious when she talks and we end up sounding just like her.  She laughs at us when we try to immitate her.  It's very entertaining.

Kid Quotes

Two little boys were fighting today and one said "I'm going to hit you!"  The teacher heard and went over to him and explained how we don't threaten to hit anyone.  How would you like it if he said he was going to hit you?  He decided he wouldn't like it so he went over and said "I'm sorry."  The first boy said "That's all right, bro. No hard feelings."  And he's 3 years old! Adorable!

Kid Quote

My little nephew is the cutest little guy.  And he says the cutest things.  I get a lot of my kid quotes from him.  He's three years old and remembers EVERYTHING!  Today he told his mom that he "slicked" on the snow and almost fell because a lion was chasing him.  He also says e-cuz instead of because.  I just love him.

Happy Valentine's Day

Sunday School Lessons

I never give work to people who go door to door looking to make a little cash.  I also never buy from anyone I don't know selling door to door.  I've always been leary about strangers at my door but since Elizabeth Smart was abducted by a man who did odd jobs for her family I've just decided the risk is not worth it.  Yesterday, a man came to my door asking to shovel my walks to make gas money to take his wife to a Dr. appointment.  He wasn't technically a stranger.  He has shoveled snow for my mom in the past, but I was about to turn him away when he whispered under his breath "Please" and I could feel the desperation in his request.  I agreed and before he left I had arranged to have him on call to shovel snow for the rest of the season.  I try to listen to the spirit when it whispers to me and tells me to help others.  If I see a stranger with a "Help, Please" sign on the corner I give the change I have on hand.  If I know I will be coming back soon I like to buy something from a fast food place and give it to them.  Then I can be sure they are getting fed.  Last night I was reading in the Book of Mormon in Mosiah chapter 4 verse 16  "And also, ye yourselves will succor those that stand in need of your succor; ye will administer of your substance unto him that standeth in need; and ye will not suffer that the beggar putteth up his petition to you in vain, and turn him out to perish."
It goes on to say that those who won't give to the needy because they say that they brought it on themselves have "... no interest in the kingdom of God."  I know some of my friends won't give money to them because they think they will just go buy drugs or alcohol.  I believe that is their choice and they will be held accountable for it but I have been commanded to give to the needy and I will be held accountable for my choice to give or withhold my means.  Just my humble opinion.

Kid Quotes

Miss Angie's kindergarten class has fun coming up with words that start with the letter they are learning.  Today it was the letter P.  When it was one little girl's turn she was stumped so Angie was trying to help her.
"What are you?" she asked and one of the other boys said "She's a person!"  Well, that was a good P word but Angie was trying to get her to say princess so she asked "What do you think you are?" and she shouted "Princess".  "Great" said Miss Angie, "Now what does a princess need?" thinking they would come up with prince.  They all thought for a minute and then one of the boys exclaimed "Panties!"  It took several minutes for the class to quit laughing, including Miss Angie who decided that if the princess didn't already have panties, she sure should get some.

American Idol

I just finished the first week of Idol auditions in Hollywood.  I wasn't so sure that I would like Ellen as the replacement judge for Paula but I was pleasantly surprised.  She is a great blend of sweet and sour and very funny, too.  I think I'm going to enjoy this season even more than the past.  The kid who sang Paula's song, something Garcia (sorry, I can't remember his first name) was my favorite.  We'll see if he makes it on group night tomorrow.  I also got a valentine card from my sweet granddaughter, Caroline.  I sent her a valentine card kit so she could make her own this year and she did an excellent job.  I love it!

Kid Quotes

One of our 4 year old boys told his teacher "I can step in cow poop 'cuz I'm a real cowboy".  He's also a real cute cowboy.  And probably real stinky, too.  Then a 3 year old little boy was running around the gym and I asked him "What are you doing?"  and he replied "I'm circling".  Too cute!

Sunday School Lessons

When I was growing up, Sunday was always a special day.  Dinner was always pot roast with potatoes and carrots and either a green salad, red jello with bananas and whipped cream, or cottage cheese with fruit cocktail in it.  When mom invites us over to dinner on Sunday and asks what we want we insist that this is the only thing she can cook on Sunday.  All of us had special Sunday clothes that could only be worn on Sunday or to a wedding or funeral.  Fancy dresses, Sunday shoes, and even socks were reserved for the best day of the week. Sunday best is becoming a phrase that too many people don't understand but it was ingrained into my soul so much that I can't wear casual dress to church.  I especially can't stand to have bare legs-I feel naked.  I have to wear pantyhose, tights, or stockings.  I know so many of the younger generation think it's old fashioned or uncomfortable but I think it shows respect for a sacred day of worship.  Looking your best for the Lord is something that was expected of me growing up and I feel less respectful and worshipful when I don't look my best.  Just my humble opinion.

Lazy Day

I spent a very uneventful day at home.  I worked on a couple of sewing projects, went grocery shopping, and cleaned up the day care center after our craft fair.  Tomorrow will be very low key also.  It's the Super Bowl but I don't plan on watching.  Just church, a nap, and then I'm going to call Whittney and have her come over to look at my altered coture books.  She makes the cutest headbands and is starting to sew so I know she will love them.  I finally have someone in the family to talk sewing to.  Yeah!

Kid Quotes

I overheard a very funny conversation on the van this afternoon.  A boy and girl were sitting together talking and he told her "I can't wait for summer.  We get to play tennis and I'm a champion.  Know why? Cuz I versed a grownup" (as in boy vs grownup).
A little later he asked her how old she was and she said "I'm 8 and a half but I look old for my age."  It's probably the only time in her life that she will be proud to look older than her age.

Kid Quote

Every morning we start the day in music class.  At the beginning we have the children stand and pledge to the flag.  Today as we were saying the pledge, one of the 4 year old boys recited "....one nation, UNDER DOG, with liberty and justice for all."  I think it's great that they get the words right most of the time.  I'm going to listen closer to see if they get the big words like indivisible, allegiance, republic, etc.

Kid Quotes

Mom came back from picking up the elementary school kids today and couldn't quit grinning.  She said one of the boys got on the van and announced "All the Gods are Mormon!"  She told him "What do you mean?  There's only one God" and he said "You know, God and Jesus Christ".  I think the schools are doing a better job than I give them credit for.  Then when I was getting ready to leave I walked through one of the classrooms where they were getting ready to paint.  One little 4 year old boy was passing out the paint smocks.  When another boy didn't want the one he was offered he was told "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit!"  Now, those are words to live by.

Kid Quotes

This morning one of our school age boys was very excited to tell everyone something.  As he got on the van the said "My dad is very intelligent.  Know why?  He can squeeze his nose and make skin pop out!"  That sounds like quite a trick but I don't know how that makes him so smart.  I didn't see his father this afternoon to ask him about it but I can't wait to see him.  I'm sure there is a logical explanation.  At least from the boy's view, anyway.

Kid Quotes

One of my favorite times of the day is when the parents come to pick up their kids and they run up to them squealing "Mommy, Daddy!"  Today one of our older boys (about 8 years old) greeted his mother with "Don't forget to get on the eliptical tonight, mom".  I thought she'd be mad or offended but she asks him to remind her so she won't forget.  Maybe that's why I don't exercise.  I don't have children at home to remind me.  It sounds like a logical excuse to me.

Sunday School Lessons

I spent a wonderful Sunday in my own ward for conference.  We have the best people in our ward.  I am also very grateful to be home safely from Boise.  Maria and I had a great time until I ran out of gas on the freeway in the middle of nowhere.  It had to be one of the most humiliating moments in my life.  I never run out of gas.  I guess we were so excited about all the cool things we saw at the Miche Bag meeting that I didn't even think about filling up.  After sitting in the car and laughing for a few minutes, I used my cell phone to google towing companies in Rupert and was able to call a very nice man who came out and brought gasoline to us, for a price of course.  Just a note, try not to get stranded in the middle of nowhere, it's very expensive.  And time consuming.  And inconvenient.  But I loved Maria's outlook.  She explained that it could have been a lot worse.  It could have been at night, in a snow storm.  She is right of course.  Everything happens for a reason.  Maybe I needed to learn to check the gas gauge more often so it will never happen again and leave me stranded in a more inconvenient or even dangerous situation.  And believe me, I have learned my lesson.

Kid Quotes

My grandchildren had parents day at their school on Friday.  Their mother, my daughter, went to their classes and watched their performances and then took them to McDonald's after school for a special treat.  They got happy meals and each received a toy car.  Caroline's was purple and Christian decided he wanted the purple one.  Caroline refused to give it up.  Anyone who knows Christian will envision him working up a doozy of a melt down.  He does them so well.  This is how the conversation went:

Christian: CAROLINE, God said to share!!!!!!!!!!!
Caroline: But he didn't say to trade.

I really think my daughter will have her hands full with her daughter as she gets older.  At the age of 7, she is already working the loopholes.  Can you imagine her at 16?  Oh, my.

Going to Boise

I'm on my way to Boise for a training on my Miche Bag business.  I can't wait to see the amazing new shells and accessories that were unveiled at the national convention.  I don't like the drive there, too long and boring, but one of the other reps is going with me so I'll have some company.  And I get to see my son, Taylor, who lives there.  I'm taking him and his girlfriend and another friend to dinner and then probably grocery shopping.  A mom has to make sure her children are eating and if I know Taylor, he spends his money on music and not food.

Kid Quotes

I heard two funny kid quotes today at work and I can't remember them.  I know I'm not as young as I once was but this is ridiculous.  Why does my mind do this to me?  I've been living a good clean life, well at least for the past 25 years.  I guess I'll have to start writing everything down so I can write about it here.  Or I need to set up my blog so I can access it on my cell phone.  I think that will be my project for.....I don't know when.  Maybe next week?  I'll have to ask someone who knows how to do it if they will help me.  Any volunteers?

Kid Quotes

We have the best employees in town!  I love working with the girls/women at the day care center.  They are funny, dependable, and just good girls.  One of those, Andrea, had the best conversation with a first grader today.  After she picked him up and was heading to the next school he asked her "Ms. Andrea, do you ever wonder?"  She replied, "Wonder what?"  He said, "Just wonder".  She smiled and asked him "What are you wondering?" and he said "Nothing.  I'm just wondering."  I wish I could shrink down and migrate into their little minds to find out how they reason and think.  And wonder.  Aren't they great?

Kid Quotes

Our cook, Tina came into the office giggling today.  One of our cute 3 year old girls asked her "Aren't I ADORNABLE?"  I have to admit that all the little girls are adorable and adornable and even a lot of the boys are pretty darn cute.  The things they say are the cutest, though.

Sunday School Lessons

Today I was in the 11th ward for their ward conference.  The bishop, bishop's wife and stake president were the speakers.  The choir sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and it was the most beautiful rendition I think I've ever heard.  They only had 7 women and 7 men but their voices were so strong and they blended perfectly.  It was awesome.  There was a poem on the front of the bulletin that I really like.  I don't know who wrote it, there was no author on it but here it is:
Yes, You Can Succeed

Figure it out for yourself, my lad;
You've all that the greatest men have had;
Two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyes,
And a brain to use if you would be wise.
With this equipment they all began.
So start from the top and say "I can".

Look them over, the wise and the great;
They take their food from a common plate.
And similar knives and forks they use,
With similar laces they tie their shoes.
The world considers them brave and smart
But you've all the had when they made their start.

You're the handicapped you must face;
You are the one who must choose your place.
You must say where you want to go,
How much you will study the truth to know;
God has equipped you for life, but He
Lets you decide what you want to be.

Courage must come from the soul within,
The man must furnish the will to win.
So figure it out for yourself, my lad;
You are born with all the the great have had.
With all your equipment they all began,
Get hold of yourself and say, "I CAN".

Book Review

I have finished two more books, "I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This and Other Things That Strike Me Funny" by Bob Newhart and "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch.
Bob Newhart's book was the first one I read.  He reminds me of my dad because we loved watching his shows.  Reruns of his first show would air after Johnny Carson in the late 70's and early 80's.  I still think he should be married to Suzanne Pleschette.  My dad had his comedy albums and I remember listening to them while I was growing up.  His book was a great read for all the memories but it was written in kind of a half hazzard way.  I did learn something though.  Before he got started he sent demo tapes to 3 radio stations and two of them were familiar.  One was in Idaho Falls and the other was in Jacksonville, FL.  I read in bed before I go to sleep and I laughed so hard in one part that I thought I'd wake up Brad.  In college at Loyola University he sparred with his friend Jim McGee.  This is the story he tells:

"During our sessions Jimmy gave me a deviated septum, probably from a left hook.  I didn't think much of it at the time until my induction physical, when the doctor said, "Bend over," which I did,
and the doctor said, "How did you get the deviated septum?" and I wondered, "You can see it
from there?"

It still makes me laugh, out loud, hard!
I also think he had the all time best moment in TV history at the end of his show Newhart when he wakes up in bed with Suzanne Pleschette and tells her about the dream he had of running an Inn in Vermont.  Brilliant!

"The Last Lecture"  was a more uplifting book than I was expecting.  It's written by a man who is dying from cancer.  He is married with 3 kids and is a professor.  He is asked to give a lecture at the end of his career and he ends up delivering a legacy for his wife and children.  It is also very entertaining.  The book has 61 chapters but they are very short, some less than a page long.  Some of my favorites are:

Be The First Penguin
All You Have To Do Is Ask
Be A Communitarian
No Job Is Beneath You
The $100,000 Salt And Pepper Shaker
Get In Touch With Your Crayon Box
Send Out Thin Mints
A Recovering Jerk
Romancing The Brick Wall

Actually, I could put down almost every chapter so I should just tell you to read the whole book.  I highly recommend it.  I would recommend the Bob Newhart  book if you are a fan of his.

Kid Quotes

As I was driving and picking up kids from school today I was listening in on the conversation behind me.  This is how it went:

T: "I've been playing the coolest game.  Do you know how to play it?"
J: "No."
T: "You just have to read the CONSTRUCTIONS"

I laughed for 6 blocks!

Kid Quotes

Today, one of the moms called to tell us her 4 year old son has been absent from pre-school because he broke his arm.  She said it was a pretty nasty break and wanted to know if we could help him out with things like washing his hands and going potty (I told her we would be glad to do that).  Then she laughed and said he told her "Mom, you need to write me an excuse for gym time".  She couldn't figure out how he knows about excuse notes.  I couldn't tell her but I thought it was very cute for a 4 year old to come up with that.

New Beginnings

OK.  I've decided that teenage girls aren't so bad.  For years I've dreaded working with teens.  The moods, the fighting, the cattiness, the sass, I just didn't have much patience with it all.  But tonight I went to a New Beginnings at one of the wards in our stake and the 3 girls there changed my mind and attitude.  They are good girls, fun, and very cool!  I'm actually excited to be working with them.

Today at work, one of my employees said she had read my blog and that I have "everyone's business" on it.  I didn't think it was that bad but I decided to make a couple of rules for what I will blog about.
Blogging Rules

1- No last names.
2- Maybe only initials
3- Never write anything I wouldn't say out loud.  To anyone, especially the person I'm talking about.
4- I reserve the right to change the rules when I want ( it IS my blog after all...).

I have included the scripture valentine I made and I hope you like it.

Mom Buys A House Online

Today was a very relaxed day at the center.  We did have all the school age kids because school was out for MLKJ day but even with them it was fairly quiet.  I worked on organizing the employee files and then went to JoAnn's for their big sale.  Patterns were 99 cents and their red tag fabric was 50% off.  I got several cute patterns for Caroline and one for a pioneer cap.  I want to make one for our handcart trek this summer.  When I got back to work mom told me she saw a house that was going to be auctioned off this afternoon and wanted to go look at.  I called Brad and he went with her to inspect it and then she went online and registered to bid on it.  I couldn't believe it when she WON THE AUCTION!  I've never heard of anyone buying a house online.  She got a great deal on it and wants to fix it up a little and then sell it.  She might have started a second business.  You go mom!

Sunday School Lessons

We had a wonderful ward conference in the 28th ward today.  Bishop Olsen and his wife spoke as well as Pres Hunter.  Then we went to Sunday School to study the creation as found in the book of Moses.  Finally we presented the lesson in Young Women.  They only had 2 girls there but they were great.  They even stayed after the lesson for about 10 minutes and talked with us about school classes and the change to their credits to graduate.  When I came home Brad had dinner ready-ginger sesame chicken, baked yams, and peas and carrots-YUM!  I didn't get a nap after dinner because we had a fireside to go to.  Coach Knight from IF was the speaker.  Our theme this year is taken from Joshua 1:9 "...be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."  He taught them how to be strong, both physically and spiritually.  That we need to practice the things that bring spiritual strength.  He challenged us to make a sacrifice of something that doesn't invite the spirit and replace it with something good that does bring the Holy Spirit into our life.  I have a few ideas but haven't decided what to do for sure.  I'm giving myself a week to think about it and then commit.  I'll let you know what it is.

Caroline's Thank You Card

I received this thank you card from my granddaughter Caroline.  She calls me graham crackers.   When she was here last summer she started calling me grams and then it became graham crackers.  She's chocolate and Christian is marshmellows so we can make S'mores.  Kevin is the fire.  I sent them a microwave S'more maker for Christmas.  I can't wait for them to come for the summer again.  I like to keep them for as long as I can-a month or more.  CariSu and JuanLuis are going to Spain for 3 weeks in July so I think I get the kids from the last of June until the end of July.  We always have so much fun.  They love to play with their cousins Tyson, Jackson, Lexie and Tommy and CariSu and JuanLuis have fun just being a young couple in love.  It's a win-win for everyone.

Lily-Bad Dog!

My sister Leisa just left my house.  She came over so I could rub her back.  She has a big knot on her right shoulder blade and I spent about 15 minutes rubbing it out.  Her son, Tyson (age 7) came with her. He had never seen Connor's house so he went next door to see it and Connor's dog, Lily, bit Tyson in the face.  It was really more like a scratch but it bled and scared Tyson.  We can't figure out why she did that unless she was just being protective of her turf.  I went grocery shopping tonight so I won't have to leave my house tomorrow.  I plan on staying in my pj's all day long and cleaning and sewing and reading and doing whatever I feel like.  That's my idea of heaven.

Sick Day

I just got home from work.  We had a training at 6:30 pm and it was great.  Holly Whitworth came and talked about classroom environments.  Inspiring!  I'm not feeling well again so I'm going to bed.  I had mom check my glucose levels and they were normal so it's not blood sugar related.  Oh, I almost forgot, Jackson went home with his teacher Brittney last night and now he calls her his mom.  Leisa thinks it's funny, which is good.  I'm glad her feelings aren't hurt because it is kind of cute.  Andrea gave him a magic wand that he sleeps with.  He tried to turn the couch into a Thomas bed.  What a kid!

Stake YW Meeting

I just got home from my monthly Young Women meeting with the Stake.  We are in charge of a large 4 stake Mia Maid/Teacher pre-dating activity.  We talked about several ideas and then Sis. Hunter offered the idea of a pre-dating speed dating night.  I think the kids would LOVE that!  I would have at that age.  We are also planning a Youth Conference for July 22,23,24 that will be a handcart trek.  We are going to Chesterfield, Idaho and pulling handcarts in pioneer dress to similate and authentic trek.  I went on a trek at Ensign Peak in Salt Lake City several years ago for a Youth Conference and I swore I'd never do that again.  It was so HARD!  Ultimately, it was one of the best experiences of my life but it was HARD!  I really appreciate my pioneer ancestors so much more but have I told you that it was HARD!  I also learned to never say never because here I am planning on going on another one.  I guess I learn the HARD way!

Kid Quotes

OK, so yesterday one of our employees picked up the Latchkey kids from school and when she pulled into the parking lot, one of the second graders was standing at the curb holding a sign, grinning from ear to ear, and waving at everyone that passed by.  When she got on the van she asked all the kids "Who wants Geiko?"  This is the picture she was holding.  Check out the spelling on insurance.  It's hysterical!

Sick Day

The last half of the day I've been getting sick and I'm going to bed right now (even if it is only 6:30).  Sleep helps me heal.  So this is all I'm going to blog tonight but tomorrow I have the funniest story about one of our Latchkey kids.

Birthday Party

Today we celebrated my niece, Lexie's birthday.  I can't believe she's 10 years old.  She is growing into quite the young lady.  She performed the cutest dance to a song by Selena Gomez (I don't remember what it was) but she wasn't brave enough to do it in front of her cousin Aaron who is 15.  She made him leave the room.  We got talking about when my youngest, Connor, was baptized.  The whole family came to see him as well as the Primary President and of course the Bishopric.  He was in the dressing room getting into his white clothes when everyone arrived and when he came into the room and saw everyone he asked "What are they doing here?"  I told him they were here to see him get baptized.  He said "Oh, no, I'm not getting baptized with them here.  Make them leave!" and he was serious.  He wouldn't calm down until we cleared the room.  The only one he would let stay was his brother Taylor.  He even made me leave.  I didn't care, as long as he wasn't freaking out it was OK with me.  We all stood in the hall and laughed about it.  His dad baptized him and his Grandpa Potter was a witness.  It was quite a memorable day!

Going Rogue

"I don't believe that God put us on earth to be ordinary"
--Lou Holtz--

These are the first words in Sarah Palin's book "Going Rogue".  I LOVE this quote.  I also love the style she writes in.  It feels like you're sitting with your best friend and catching up.  I also love one of her stories and I'm going to share it with you.

It was in softball that Coach Reid Smith taught me another lesson that served me well for years.  He told one of our rookie outfielders, who was almost as weak a player as I was, to quit jumping around and acting all gleeful when she successfully caught a fly ball.
"That's what you're supposed to do, girl!" he yelled.  "Quit acting surprised when you do what you're put there to do!"
Early in my political career, I would remember that lesson.  When things went right under my administration's leadership, sometimes I'd look around and wonder why no one but me was jumping with joy.  Then I'd recall Coach Smith's holler from years ago: "You were put there to do this, so don't act surprised." (And don't look to anyone else to cheer you either.)

What a great story.  I think we are often surprised when we succeed in something, especially if it's something hard.  We can do hard things.  We can do amazing things.  We just need to believe in ourselves.  I'm going to work harder to believe in others and myself.

Another Day....

I almost went to bed without blogging!  It's too soon to blow my resolution.  The day at work was kind of uneventful.  I did bring my sister into the 21st century.  I helped her create a facebook page AND a blog.  Her blog is http://www.idahoshopgirl.com/.  It's very cute and she did a great job on it.  I finished my book "Even Money" and I'm going to start "Going Rogue" by Sarah Palin.  Mom gave it to me after she read it and said it's a must read.  I'll let you know what I think.

Cute Kids

I hope the story I'm about to tell you isn't too...well...inappropriate.  If it is I 'm sorry but it was too funny.  There is a little boy at the day care center who enjoys....."fondling" himself.  Yesterday, he kept trying to talk to my sister, Leisa and she was ignoring him.  She finally asked him what he wanted and he said, very innocently, "My weenie is big!"  She had to leave the room so he wouldn't see her laughing.  Then today at nap time he had his hands down his pants and Ms. Kate told him to take them out and he said "But I'm not touching my weenie".  BOYS!  What do you do with them?

Another day...

Today was pretty dull with the exception of firing one of our employees.  Not my favorite thing to do but sometimes necessary.  I made spaghetti and meatballs and I feel sick now.  I think the meatballs were past their prime.  I have what Connor calls "popcorn burps".  Yuck!  I think I'll go to bed.

Ordinary Day

Today was another long day at work.  My sister, Leisa, has been home with her 3 yr old, Jackson because he has been sick so I had to close the center tonight.  Mom works in the temple on Tuesdays.  I feel so sorry for Jackson.  His temperature was so high this weekend that he was hallucinating.  He thought there were kitty cats in his bed with him.  I did get a break at lunch time so I went shopping for a calendar.  They were pretty picked over but I found a really cute inspirational one for $1.50.  I'm missing my reality TV.  No "Dancing With The Stars", "American Idol", "So You Think You Can Dance", or "Castle".  Well, Castle isn't reality but I really enjoy it.  I even read the book "Heat Wave".  I might just go to bed early and read.  I finished "U is for Undertow" by Sue Grafton last week and I'm reading "Even Money" by Felix and Dick Francis.  Dick Francis is my favorite author and I think his son, Felix, will take over for him when he's no longer writing.  I hope so, at least.  And I hope Grafton comes up with something when she runs out of the alphabet.

Kid Sayings

I work at a day care center and love it when the kids say cute things.  Today I was getting ready to read a story to the 3 year old preschool class and I was asking each of them what they got for Christmas.  After they finished telling me what Santa brought them I told them that I had received a spice rack.  One of the little boys (I'll call him N) said "Oh, that freaks me out!"  I guess rosemary and ginger can be a little freaky!  After the story he told me he didn't like it, that it was boring.  Then after snack he was in the dramatic play center, trying to put on a policeman outfit and he looked over at me, put his hands in the air and said "Oh, teacher...a little help over here??????????"  I could steal him and take him home with me.

Fast Sunday

Today our church starts at 11:00 am.  It is Fast Sunday which means we fast for 2 meals and then donate what we would have spent on those 2 meals to the Fast Offering Fund which helps people who need money to live.  I like to fast Sat night for dinner and Sun morning for breakfast but I forgot last night and so now I need to fast for Sun breakfast and lunch.  I need to find a way to remember the night before so I can start on Sat.  Tomorrow is back to work and I don't think I'm going to like that.  I've enjoyed having time off and getting things done.  Oh, well, someday I won't have to work.

New Snow

Woke up this morning to more snow.  I had one of my Miche Reps coming to pick up an order so I shoveled the walks and driveway.  It was so clean and white, I hated to disturb it.  I also loved the sound of the snow shovel scraping against the concrete.  It made me feel warm even in the chilly morning.  I should have done more cleaning and organizing today but instead I went and had my hair cut and returned several Christmas purchases.  My hair is shorter than I've had it in a long time.  My husband, Brad loves short hair so I know he'll like it.  It is similar to Victoria Beckham's hair.  I watched "Duplicity" and fell asleep-it wasn't very intriguing-and now I need to go grocery shopping.  I think I'm craving Chinese food.

Happy New Year

It's January 1st and the second day of my project.  Brad is working and I'm spending the day cleaning.  Sounds dreary?  I love it.  I'm moving my craft room downstairs and my sewing room upstairs.  It's more than a one day job but the great thing is I have all day tomorrow.  I need to go to the grocery store but if I leave the house I loose momentum and usually don't finish the job.  Lifetime has a Jennifer Aniston marathon on and I just finished watching "Rumor Has It".  "Derailed" just started.  I haven't seen either one.  It has snowed several inches today and it looks so clean outside.  When Connor gets up I need to have him shovel the walks.  I'll have to pay him but it's worth it.  We bought the house next door a couple of months ago and he is living there.  After a rocky beginning, he has settled in and is doing quite well.  Next step is getting him a job.
